Common questions

LOGGING

How do I log a meal?

Your day arrives as six slots — breakfast, three snacks, lunch and dinner — with your usual meals already pre-loaded. Tap the check on a slot to confirm you ate it, or the X to skip it. Tap the meal itself to open it and change anything inside.

To add something new, open a slot and choose a saved meal, take a picture, or describe what you ate. BiteBot asks what you ate first, then how much, so an amount is never mistaken for a food.

A meal shows calories but says “not counted yet.”

That is a pre-loaded meal. BiteBot shows what it expects you to eat, but never counts it toward your daily totals until you confirm it. Tap the check and it counts. Nothing is written to your log without you.

How do I stop a meal from pre-loading?

Open the Meals tab and tap the bot icon on the meal to switch it off. The meal stays saved — it just stops appearing on its own each morning. Hold and drag a meal to move it to a different slot.

A food’s nutrition looks wrong.

Open the meal and tap the pencil beside the ingredient to change the amount or pick a different match. If the ingredient came from a saved meal, the edit applies to today’s entry only — your saved meal stays as it is.

If a food is consistently wrong, tap the bug icon at the top of any screen and tell us which one. Reports go straight to Aaron and most become fixes within days.

APPLE HEALTH AND NOTIFICATIONS

My workout or calories burned isn’t showing.

BiteBot reads workouts from Apple Health, so a workout has to reach Health first. If you use a Garmin, Coros or similar watch, that sync happens in the watch’s own app and can take a few minutes.

Once it is there, tap the refresh icon on the activity strip on Today, or pull down to refresh the screen. If it still doesn’t appear, check iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → BiteBot and make sure Workouts is enabled.

How do I revoke Apple Health access?

iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → BiteBot. You can turn off individual categories or all of them. BiteBot works fine without Apple Health — you just won’t see calories burned, and water won’t stay in sync with your other apps.

Why am I not getting reminders?

That is usually BiteBot working as intended. It only nudges you about a meal you have actually left unanswered well past its usual time — if you are keeping up with your log, it stays quiet. You will get one greeting each morning when your day is pre-loaded.

If you get nothing at all, check iOS Settings → Notifications → BiteBot.

ACCOUNT AND PRIVACY

How do I delete my account?

Tap your avatar in the top right to open Settings, then scroll to Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent: the account and every food log, saved meal, weight entry and photo tied to it are removed from our servers. There is no restore window, so only do this when you are sure.

How is my data used?

The full breakdown is in our Privacy Policy. In short: food descriptions and meal photos are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to identify foods and estimate nutrition, and are not retained for training. Apple Health data is used only to show your activity inside the app. Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with advertisers or data brokers.

BiteBot uses Sign in with Apple, so there is no password and no email address required.

Is BiteBot medical advice?

No. BiteBot provides nutritional tracking and coaching for general wellness, for informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified healthcare professional, and it is not designed to diagnose, treat or manage any medical condition. Talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian before making significant dietary changes. The full text is in our Health Disclaimer.

I’m on TestFlight — how do I get the latest version?

Most updates arrive over the air. Force-quit BiteBot and reopen it, and it will pick up the newest version on launch. When TestFlight shows a genuinely new build, install it from there — some changes can only ship that way.

Still stuck?

Email hello@bite-bot.app and include your iPhone model, the app version from Settings, and roughly when the problem happened. That is usually enough to find it in the logs.
